Top Mount |
This is our most popular style. All "Top Mount" hinges have the hinge barrel in the UP position. |

Flush Mount |
For Flush Mount Applications where bare feet walk or where fishing lines can get snagged use these "Barrel Down" hinges.
Note: Be sure to check the hinge range of motion. Most Flush Mount Hinges open up between 100-130 degrees. If you need the hinge to go back further, please review our "Swaged Hinges" or our "180 Degree Hinges".
You will need to install a hatch limiter on hatches that use this hinge. Many customers use limiting cables, hatch springs (GEM Part # 453), gas shocks, etc. |

Swaged |
GEM Swaged hinges are very popular because they "Lay Back" much further than our Flush Mount Hinges, yet, still have a fairly flush final mounting. Most Swaged hinges lay back 130 degrees.
You will need to install a hatch limiter on hatches that use this hinge. Many customers use limiting cables, hatch springs (GEM Part # 453), gas shocks, etc.

180° |
GEM 180 degree hinges fit flush in your boat and fold back 180 degrees so that your hatch can lay flat in the open position. They are ideal for flats and fishing boats.
No restraining cable is needed since the hatch can fold all the way back.
Be sure to select your hinge carefully with special attention being paid to the amount of necessary recess you will need to tool into your mold. Some of the hinges like the 2180 have a "Full Bracket" while others have a "Half Bracket".
The "Full Bracket" hinges require a deeper recess but offer more horizontal stability, while the "Half Bracket" or "No Bracket" hinges require less recess but are a bit more loose by design. |
